Comments:

This is a Bring-your-own-Map event. Participants download a map, and do the courses at a time that best works for them.

The courses are set up and ready as of 5/10 @ noon, and will not be taken down before 6 PM on Sunday 5/19.

This is an all-new updated map of Mt. Misery, with LiDAR contours by Jon Campbell and field checking and drafting by Peter Campbell, with some assistance from Jon. Enjoy.

The terrain here is generally quite open and fast, so feel free to run another course if you're looking for more!

Please use caution if orienteering through the parking lot. Check out in-person intermediate training option on May 19, 1-2pm (details below).

Green & Get-Em-All participants only: The eastern boundary road (Concord Rd) is currently being re-paved. According to signs, the actual laying of asphalt will be on Tuesday, May 14, which may prevent you from safely accessing the "extended" portion of the green course for a few hours during the pavement process.

Time Your Run

  • Time yourself (no splits will be captured).
      —or—
  • Use your smartphone to scan a code at each control (requires data connection; may require an app that reads QR codes). Note: Cell service is spotty around Mt. Misery. If you plan to use QR-code timing, use the stopwatch on your phone as a backup, to get your course time. If a QR-punch fails, report your run as a "self-timed runner" (see below).

Record Your Time

  • Self-timed runners: Record your time for the final results.
  • QR-code runners: Your time and splits were automatically recorded by the QRienteering system.

  • May 19 - Intermediate Orienteering training: Meet up with some experienced orienteers on May 19 from 1-2pm to focus on core skills required to either improve on Orange or to move to Brown.  Options will be to have a more experienced orienteer as a shadow for the first 3 controls on the Brown course to get feedback / suggestions on your technical approach, or to discuss / review route choices and compare / contrast with other NEOCers.Sign up in advance (required).  Note that individual youth who wish to participate must have an adult present.
  • This event is set up on the Usynligo app (for those who are familiar with it and enjoy using it).
